FireStuff Intumescent Granulate

FireStuff is an advanced marine-grade intumescent granulate pellet composed of high-quality plastic/rubber. Engineered to rapidly expand upon exposure to heat or fire, it finds widespread utility in fire protection and sealing applications, effectively containing and mitigating the propagation of fire, smoke, toxic fumes, and hot gases. FireStuff zero halogen compound exhibits remarkable performance, initiating expansion at approximately 200 °C, often triggered by the presence of hot smoke. This exceptional material is a trusted choice for safeguarding against fire-related hazards.

Key Features:

• Non-Toxic, Halogen Free Components
• Resists heat, frost, UV & humidity
• Very high oxygen index
• Low smoke density
• Solid sticky char

Fire Properties:

• Intumescent activation – 200°C
• Expansion – 5 to 10 times original volume **depends on shape**

Advantages:

The key advantage of intumescent rubber is its ability to expand and form a protective barrier when exposed to high temperatures, helping to delay the spread of fire and protect critical building elements and equipment. It is an important component in fire safety systems and is used to comply with building and safety regulations in many industries.

Typical Applications

• Firestop systems: Intumescent rubber is often used in firestop systems, which are designed to seal openings in walls, floors, and ceilings to prevent the spread of fire and smoke. When exposed to heat, the intumescent rubber expands to fill gaps and seal off the area, helping to maintain the integrity of the fire barrier.

Cable and pipe penetration seals: In buildings and industrial facilities, cables and pipes often pass through walls and floors. Intumescent rubber can be used to create seals around these penetrations to prevent the spread of fire and smoke.

• Door seals & gaskets: Intumescent rubber can be used in the construction of fire-rated doors and windows to create seals and gaskets that expand and seal off gaps when exposed to fire, helping to maintain the fire resistance of these openings.

• Expansion joint seals: Intumescent rubber is used in expansion joint seals in buildings to provide fire protection while allowing for movement due to temperature changes or building settling.

• Electrical and electronic enclosures: In some cases, intumescent rubber can be used in the construction of electrical and electronic enclosures to provide fire protection for the equipment inside.

• Automotive and transportation: Intumescent rubber can be used in vehicle components, such as seals and gaskets, to provide fire resistance in case of a fire incident.

Processing

FireStuff granulate can be used in both injection moulding & extrusion machines. It is strongly advised, that all areas of the processing parts are made from harder metals, to protect against corrosion. For example 1.2085 steel – corrosion resistant high alloy, pre-toughened steel with good machinability due to sulphur (S) additive.
